அருணாசலத்தின் தெருக்களில் ஒரு விசித்திரமான துறவி சுற்றித் திரிந்தார்.
அவருக்கு ஆசிரமம் இல்லை.

அவர் விரும்பியது புகழும் அல்ல.
அருணாசலனே அவரது உலகம்.
முதலில் மக்கள் அவரை புரிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை.
அவரது செயல்கள் சாதாரண மனிதர்களின் அறிவுக்கு எட்டாதவையாக இருந்தன.
ஆனால் காலம் சென்றபோது…
அவரது ஒவ்வொரு செயலும் ஒரு ஆழமான ஆன்மிகப் பொருளை கொண்டிருந்தது என்பதை மக்கள் உணரத் தொடங்கினர்.
பிறப்பு மற்றும் குடும்ப பின்னணி
1870 ஆம் ஆண்டு.
பழமையான கோவில்கள், வேத ஓசைகள், தெய்வீக மரபுகள் நிறைந்த காஞ்சிபுரம்.
அங்கு வாழ்ந்த வரதராஜ ஜோசியர் மற்றும் மரகதம் அம்மாள் தம்பதியருக்கு ஒரு ஆண் குழந்தை பிறந்தது.
அந்தக் குழந்தைக்கு அவர்கள் “சேஷாத்ரி” என்று பெயரிட்டனர்.
அந்த நாளில் அந்தக் குழந்தை பின்னாளில் இந்திய ஆன்மிக வரலாற்றின் முக்கியமான மகான்களில் ஒருவராகப் போற்றப்படுவார் என்பதை யாரும் கற்பனை செய்யவில்லை.
ஆனால்…
சில அறிகுறிகள் ஆரம்பத்திலிருந்தே இருந்தன.
மற்ற குழந்தைகள் விளையாடிக் கொண்டிருக்கும்போது…
சேஷாத்ரி நீண்ட நேரம் அமைதியாக வானத்தை நோக்கிப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருப்பார்.
சில சமயங்களில் கண்களை மூடி ஆழ்ந்த தியானத்தில் அமர்ந்துவிடுவார்.
அவரது வயதிற்கு மீறிய அமைதி…
அவரைச் சுற்றியிருந்தவர்களை வியப்பில் ஆழ்த்தியது.
சிறுவயதிலேயே வெளிப்பட்ட தெய்வீக அறிகுறிகள்

அவரது குடும்பத்தினர் இதை ஒரு நல்ல பக்தியாகவே கருதினர்.
ஆனால்…
விரைவில் நடந்த ஒரு சம்பவம்…
அவரை ஒரு சாதாரண குழந்தை அல்ல என்று மக்கள் நம்பத் தொடங்க வைத்தது.
“தங்கக்கை சேஷாத்ரி” என்ற பெயர் எப்படி வந்தது?
காஞ்சிபுரம் வரதராஜப் பெருமாள் கோவிலில் திருவிழா நடைபெற்றுக் கொண்டிருந்தது.
வீதிகள் முழுவதும் பக்தர்கள்.
நாதஸ்வரம்.
தீபங்கள்.
“கோவிந்தா!” என்ற முழக்கங்கள்.
அந்தக் கூட்டத்தின் நடுவே…
தாயின் கையைப் பிடித்தபடி நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தார் சிறுவன் சேஷாத்ரி.
அப்போது அவரது பார்வை ஒரு சிறிய பொம்மைக் கடையில் விழுந்தது.
அங்கு வரிசையாக வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த தெய்வச் சிலைகளில்…
ஒரு பாலகிருஷ்ணர் சிலை மட்டும் அவரது கவனத்தை ஈர்த்தது.
“அம்மா…
எனக்கு அந்தக் கிருஷ்ணர் வேண்டும்.”
என்று மெதுவாகக் கூறினார்.
மரகதம் அம்மாள் தயங்கினார்.
ஆனால்…
கடை உரிமையாளர் அந்தக் குழந்தையின் முகத்தை சில நொடிகள் பார்த்தார்.
ஏனோ…
அந்த அமைதி அவரை உள்ளுக்குள் தொட்டது.
“பணம் வேண்டாம் அம்மா…
இந்தக் குழந்தைக்கு நான் அன்பளிப்பாகக் கொடுக்கிறேன்.”
என்று கூறி அந்தச் சிலையை சேஷாத்ரியின் கைகளில் வைத்தார்.
அது ஒரு சாதாரண அன்பளிப்பு என்று அவர் நினைத்தார்.
ஆனால்…
அடுத்த நாள் அவரது வாழ்க்கையே மாறப்போகிறது என்பதை அவர் அறிந்திருக்கவில்லை.
ஒரு பொம்மை வியாபாரியின் வாழ்க்கையை மாற்றிய குழந்தை
மறுநாள் காலை.
அதே தெரு.
அதே தாய்.
அதே குழந்தை.
ஆனால்…
இந்த முறை ஓடிவந்தது அந்த பொம்மை வியாபாரி.
அவர் நேராக மரகதம் அம்மாளின் காலில் விழுந்தார்.
கண்களில் கண்ணீர்.
உடல் முழுவதும் நடுக்கம்.
“அம்மா…
உங்கள் மகன் சாதாரணக் குழந்தை இல்லை…
இவன் தங்கக்கை…
தங்கக்கை!”
என்று கூறினார்.
என்ன நடந்தது?
முந்தைய நாள்…
சேஷாத்ரி கையில் எடுத்த அந்த ஒரு பாலகிருஷ்ணர் சிலைக்குப் பிறகு…
பல நாட்களாக விற்காமல் இருந்த அவரது கடையிலிருந்த சிலைகள் அனைத்தும் ஒன்றன்பின் ஒன்றாக விற்றுத் தீர்ந்துவிட்டன.
ஒரே நாளில் ஆயிரத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்ட சிலைகள் விற்றுச் சென்றதாக அவர் ஆச்சரியத்துடன் கூறினார்.
அது வியாபாரியின் பார்வையில் ஒரு அதிசயம்.
மக்களின் பார்வையில் ஒரு அறிகுறி.
அந்த நாளிலிருந்து…
“தங்கக்கை சேஷாத்ரி”
என்ற பெயர் காஞ்சிபுரம் முழுவதும் பரவியது.
பின்னர் அது தமிழகம் முழுவதும் அறியப்பட்டது.
ஒரு தாயின் கடைசி மூன்று வார்த்தைகள்
காலம் நகர்ந்தது.
சேஷாத்ரி இளைஞனானார்.
ஆனால்…
அவரது மனம் உலக வாழ்க்கையில் இல்லை.
மணிக்கணக்கில் தியானம்.
வேதப் பயிற்சி.
திருவாசகப் பாடல்கள்.
இறை நினைவில் உருகும் மனம்.
இவற்றை எல்லாம் அவரது தாய் மரகதம் அம்மாள் அமைதியாகக் கவனித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.
சில நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு அவர் கடுமையாக நோய்வாய்ப்பட்டார்.
இறுதி நேரம் நெருங்கியது.
அவர் சேஷாத்ரியை அருகில் அழைத்தார்.
அனைவரும் அவர் மகனுக்கு இறுதி அறிவுரை கூறப்போகிறார் என்று நினைத்தனர்.

அவர் சொன்னது வெறும் மூன்று வார்த்தைகள்.

சிறிது நேரம் அமைதி.

அதன்பிறகு அவர் உயிர் நீத்தார்.

அது ஒரு மலையின் பெயராக இல்லை.
அது ஒரு தாயின் கடைசி ஆசையாகவும் இல்லை.

அருணாசலனின் நேரடி அழைப்பாக அவரது ஆன்மா உணர்ந்தது.
உலக வாழ்க்கையைத் துறக்க வைத்த அருணாசலத்தின் அழைப்பு
அதன்பிறகு சேஷாத்ரி மாறிப்போனார்.
உறக்கம் குறைந்தது.
பேச்சு குறைந்தது.
உலக ஆசைகள் மறைந்தன.
குடும்பத்தினர் கவலைப்பட்டனர்.
திருமணம் செய்து வைத்தால் எல்லாம் சரியாகிவிடும் என்று நினைத்தனர்.
ஆனால்…
இறைவனின் திட்டம் வேறாக இருந்தது.
ஒரு நாள் அவரை அறைக்குள் பூட்டி வைத்தனர்.
வெளியில் பூட்டு.
உறவினர்கள் கண்காணிப்பு.
சில மணி நேரங்கள் கழித்து கதவைத் திறந்தபோது…
அறை காலியாக இருந்தது.
அவர் எப்படிச் சென்றார்?
யாருக்கும் தெரியவில்லை.
அதே நேரத்தில் அவர் வேறொரு சிவாலயத்தில் காணப்பட்டதாக மக்கள் கூறினர்.
அந்த நிகழ்வுக்குப் பிறகு…
சேஷாத்ரி மீண்டும் வீட்டிற்குத் திரும்பவில்லை.
அவர் தனது வாழ்நாளின் மிகப் பெரிய பயணத்தைத் தொடங்கிவிட்டார்.
அந்தப் பயணம்…
அருணாசலத்தை நோக்கியது.
அருணாசலத்தை அடைந்த அந்த நாள்
நீண்ட நாட்கள் கால்நடையாகப் பயணம் செய்த பிறகு…
ஒரு நாள் தொலைவில் ஒரு மலை தெரிந்தது.
அது சாதாரண மலை அல்ல.
ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளாக யோகிகளையும், சித்தர்களையும், ஞானிகளையும் தன்னிடம் ஈர்த்த அருணாசல மலை.
அந்த மலையை முதன்முறையாகக் கண்ட தருணத்தில், சேஷாத்ரி சுவாமிகள் அசையாமல் நின்றார்.
கண்களில் கண்ணீர்.
உடல் முழுவதும் நடுக்கம்.
பல ஆண்டுகளாக உள்ளத்தில் ஒலித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த “அருணாசல…” என்ற அழைப்பு, இப்போது அவரது கண்முன் நிஜமாக நின்றது.
அந்த நொடியில், அவரது பழைய வாழ்க்கை முடிந்தது.
புதிய வாழ்க்கை ஆரம்பமானது.
அவர் திருவண்ணாமலையை வந்தடைந்தார்.
ஆனால்…
அவர் மீண்டும் அந்த ஊரை விட்டு வெளியேறவில்லை.
அடுத்த நாற்பது ஆண்டுகள்…
அருணாசலமே அவரது இல்லமாக மாறியது.
மக்கள் அவரை ஏன் “பைத்தியம்” என்றார்கள்?
இன்று நாம் சேஷாத்ரி சுவாமிகளை மகானாக வணங்குகிறோம்.
ஆனால் அவர் முதலில் திருவண்ணாமலைக்கு வந்தபோது…
மக்கள் அவரை பக்தியுடன் வரவேற்கவில்லை.
மாறாக…
அவரைக் கண்டு பயந்தார்கள்.
சிலர் கேலி செய்தார்கள்.
சிலர் கல்லால் அடித்தார்கள்.
“இவர் பைத்தியம்…”
என்று ஊர் முழுவதும் பேசப்பட்டது.
ஏன்?
ஏனென்றால் அவர் எந்த மனிதனும் செய்யாத செயல்களைச் செய்தார்.
ஒரு நாள் கோவிலின் வாசலில்.
மறுநாள் சந்தையின் நடுவில்.
சில நேரங்களில் குப்பை மேட்டின் மீது.
கடும் வெயிலிலும் நின்றிருப்பார்.
கொட்டும் மழையிலும் அசையாமல் இருப்பார்.
அவருக்கு சுத்தமும் அசுத்தமும் வேறுபாடில்லை.
வெயிலும் மழையும் வேறுபாடில்லை.
புகழும் அவமானமும் ஒன்றுதான்.
மக்கள் ஒரு விசித்திரமான மனிதரைப் பார்த்தார்கள்.
ஆனால் உண்மையில்…
அவர் உலகை வேறு பார்வையில் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.
குப்பை மேட்டில் கூட இறைவனைக் கண்டவர்
ஒருநாள் சிலர் அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தனர்.
“இந்த மனிதர் நாள் முழுவதும் என்ன செய்கிறார்?” என்று தெரிந்துகொள்ள.
அவர்கள் கண்ட காட்சி அவர்களை அதிர்ச்சியில் ஆழ்த்தியது.
ஒரு பெரிய குப்பை மேட்டின் மீது…
சுற்றிலும் துர்நாற்றம்.
அழுக்கு.
கழிவுகள்.
அவற்றின் நடுவே…
சேஷாத்ரி சுவாமிகள் பேரானந்தத்துடன் தியானத்தில் அமர்ந்திருந்தார்.
அவருக்கு அந்த இடம் அசுத்தமாகத் தோன்றவில்லை.
ஏனெனில் அவரது பார்வையில்…
இறைவன் இல்லாத இடம் எதுவும் இல்லை.
ஒரு கோவிலும் இறைவனுடையது.
ஒரு குப்பை மேடும் இறைவனுடையதே.
இதுவே ஒரு ஜீவன்முக்தரின் பார்வை.
ஆனால்…
அதை சாதாரண மனிதர்கள் புரிந்துகொள்ள முடியவில்லை.
அதனால்…
அவரை “பைத்தியம்” என்று அழைத்தனர்.
வியாபாரிகளை அதிர்ச்சியடைய வைத்த அதிசயங்கள்
சேஷாத்ரி சுவாமிகளின் வாழ்க்கையில் மிகவும் பிரபலமான சம்பவங்கள் வியாபாரிகளுடன் தொடர்புடையவை.
அவர் திடீரென்று ஒரு கடைக்குள் நுழைவார்.
யாரிடமும் அனுமதி கேட்கமாட்டார்.
சில நேரங்களில் கல்லாப்பெட்டியைத் திறந்து பணத்தை எடுத்துத் தரையில் வீசிவிடுவார்.
சில நேரங்களில் பொருட்களை இடம் மாற்றுவார்.
சில நேரங்களில் எதையும் பேசாமல் வெளியேறிவிடுவார்.
கடைக்காரர்கள் முதலில் கோபப்பட்டார்கள்.
“இவர் நஷ்டப்படுத்திவிட்டார்.”
என்று எண்ணினர்.
ஆனால்…
அன்று மாலையே விசித்திரமான ஒன்று நடந்தது.
பல நாட்களாக வியாபாரம் இல்லாமல் இருந்த கடை…
மக்கள் கூட்டத்தால் நிரம்பியது.
அன்று கிடைத்த லாபம்…
முன்னைய பல வாரங்களின் வருமானத்தை விட அதிகமாக இருந்தது.
இது ஒரு முறை அல்ல.
பல கடைகளில் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் நடந்ததாக அக்கால மக்களும் பக்தர்களும் கூறியுள்ளனர்.
இதன் பிறகு வியாபாரிகள் ஒரு புதிய எண்ணத்தை வளர்த்தனர்.
“சுவாமிகள் எங்கள் கடைக்கு வந்தால் அது அருள்.”
அதன்பிறகு…
ஒரு காலத்தில் அவரை விரட்டிய அதே வியாபாரிகள்…
அவர் தங்கள் கடைக்குள் வர வேண்டும் என்று ஏங்கத் தொடங்கினர்.
ஒரு பாத்திரம் மாவு… ஒரு நகரத்தின் நம்பிக்கை
மற்றொரு நாள்.
திருவண்ணாமலையில் இருந்த ஒரு சிறிய உணவகம்.
வியாபாரம் மிகவும் மந்தமாக இருந்தது.
உரிமையாளர் கவலையில் இருந்தார்.
அப்போது சேஷாத்ரி சுவாமிகள் உள்ளே வந்தார்.
அவர் நேராக மாவு பிசைந்து வைத்திருந்த பெரிய பாத்திரத்தை நோக்கிச் சென்றார்.
யாரும் எதிர்பார்க்காத வகையில்…
அதற்குள் தண்ணீர் ஊற்றினார்.
முழு மாவும் கெட்டுப்போனது.
உரிமையாளரின் மனம் உடைந்தது.
அந்த நாளின் வியாபாரம் போய்விட்டதாக அவர் நினைத்தார்.
ஆனால்…
அன்று நடந்தது முற்றிலும் எதிர்மாறாக இருந்தது.
உணவகம் மக்கள் கூட்டத்தால் நிரம்பியது.
உணவு அனைத்தும் விற்றுத் தீர்ந்தது.
அடுத்த பல நாட்களும் வியாபாரம் தொடர்ந்து உயர்ந்தது.
இந்தச் சம்பவம் நகரம் முழுவதும் பேசப்பட்டது.
“சுவாமிகளின் செயல்களுக்கு பின்னால் நமக்குப் புரியாத அருள் இருக்கிறது.”

யாரையும் பார்த்தவுடன் கடுமையாக திட்டுவார்.
சிலரை கையால் அடிப்பார்.
இதைக் கண்ட புதியவர்கள் அதிர்ச்சியடைந்தனர்.
“இவர் எப்படி மகான்?”
என்று கேட்பார்கள்.
ஆனால்…
பின்னர் விசித்திரமான ஒன்று தெரியவந்தது.
அவர் திட்டியவர்களின் வாழ்க்கையில் மாற்றம் ஏற்பட்டது.
ஒருவர் விபத்திலிருந்து தப்பினார்.
ஒருவர் நோயிலிருந்து மீண்டார்.
மற்றொருவரின் குடும்பப் பிரச்சினை தீர்ந்தது.
இன்னொருவர் ஆன்மிகப் பாதையில் திரும்பினார்.
இதனால் பக்தர்கள் ஒரு நம்பிக்கையை உருவாக்கிக் கொண்டனர்.
“சுவாமிகளின் கோபத்திலும் கருணை இருக்கிறது.”
அவர் வெளியில் கடுமையாக இருந்தாலும்…
உள்ளத்தில் அளவற்ற கருணை கொண்டவராக இருந்தார் என்று அவரை நெருங்கியவர்கள் கூறியுள்ளனர்.
“பைத்தியம்” என்பதிலிருந்து “மகான்” வரை
காலம் மனிதர்களின் பார்வையை மாற்றியது.
ஒருகாலத்தில் கல்லால் அடித்தவர்கள்…
இப்போது அவரது தரிசனத்திற்காக காத்திருந்தனர்.
வியாபாரிகள்…
“இன்று எங்கள் கடைக்கு வருவாரா?”
என்று எதிர்பார்த்தனர்.
நோயாளிகள்…
“ஒருமுறை எங்களைத் தொடுவாரா?”
என்று ஏங்கினர்.
பக்தர்கள்…
“ஒரு பார்வை கிடைத்தாலே போதும்.”
என்று வேண்டினர்.
ஒருகாலத்தில் தெருக்களில் தனியாக நடந்த மனிதர்…
இப்போது ஆயிரக்கணக்கான மக்களின் நம்பிக்கையாக மாறியிருந்தார்.
