Years after Judge Swamigal attained Mahasamadhi, even the location of his sacred Adhisthanam had been forgotten.
It was only through the command of Swayamprakasa Swamigal that his foremost disciple Sri Santhananda Swamigal rediscovered the holy shrine and restored regular worship.
Today thousands receive blessings there, often without realizing whose sacred presence continues to guide them.
To understand these great Gurus, one must first understand their Paramaguru—Judge Swamigal.
Birth of a Brilliant Scholar
Judge Swamigal was born as Sadasivam into a respected Vedic Brahmin family belonging to the Athreya Gotra.
His father, Vedamurthi Sastri, was an extraordinary scholar.
Originally from Dhavaneswaram in present-day Andhra Pradesh, the family later relocated after their village was submerged during the construction of a dam across the Godavari River.
Vedamurthi Sastri had mastered the Vedas in Kashi and possessed exceptional knowledge of Sanskrit, Telugu, and Tamil.
Growing up in such a spiritually rich environment, young Sadasivam displayed remarkable intelligence from childhood.
He mastered Sanskrit and Telugu while still in school before moving to Madras to pursue English education and law.
A Brilliant Legal Career
Sadasivam excelled as a lawyer.
His sharp intellect, honesty, and exceptional legal knowledge soon earned him widespread respect.
His reputation eventually led to his appointment as the Chief Justice of the High Court of the Kingdom of Travancore, one of the most prestigious judicial positions in South India.
Although India was under British rule, princely states such as Travancore continued to function under Indian monarchs.

Comfort disappeared.
Only one burning desire remained.
“I must realize the Truth.”
But he knew realization required one thing above all else.
A Guru.
The Mysterious Saint of Kalahasti
His journey eventually brought him to Sri Kalahasti, one of India’s most sacred Shaiva pilgrimage centers.
Near the temple stood a small hut.
Outside the hut hung a dried bottle gourd used as a container.
People silently poured rice gruel into it before leaving.
After some time, an aged ascetic emerged from the hut.
He drank only a small quantity of the gruel before disappearing back inside.
Nobody entered the hut.
Nobody questioned him.
People simply waited for his brief appearance to receive his blessings.
The moment Sadasivam saw this mysterious saint…
…he knew.
“This is my Guru.”
The Ultimate Test
Sadasivam decided not to leave until he received initiation.
One day passed.
Then another.
Days turned into weeks.
The saint never emerged.
Most people would have left.
Sadasivam remained.
He stood outside the hut through blazing heat…
Pouring rain…
Cold nights…
Without food.
Without proper sleep.
Without complaint.
The Guru was silently testing his determination.
Finally, after many days, the saint emerged once again.
He drank a little gruel…

“Go to Rishikesh.”
Sadasivam obeyed immediately.

The former Chief Justice had now become Judge Swamigal—a Brahma Jnani.
Years of Deep Meditation
Returning from the Himalayas, Judge Swamigal chose Narthamalai, near Pudukkottai, for intense meditation.
For long periods he remained absorbed in profound yogic Samadhi.
At that time, very few people recognized who he truly was.
One exception was the Diwan of Pudukkottai, who had studied with Sadasivam during their younger days.
Recognizing his old friend, the Diwan informed the Pudukkottai Maharaja about the saint’s true identity.
The Establishment of His Adhisthanam
With the support of the Pudukkottai ruler, Judge Swamigal was respectfully brought in a grand procession from Narthamalai to Pudukkottai.
A sacred shrine was established over his Samadhi.
Today that holy Adhisthanam is located within the Sri Bhuvaneswari Amman Temple on Seventh Street, Keezha Rajaveethi, Pudukkottai.
This shrine remains one of Tamil Nadu’s lesser-known but immensely powerful spiritual centers.

Judge Swamigal’s influence did not end with his Mahasamadhi.
His spiritual current flowed through generations of realized masters.
